Tech Talk: Foundation

 

While adventuring through YouTube land, I came across one of the coolest, relatively unknown tricks that has dramatically  changed the way I have done my base makeup.

Its simplicity and efficiency is truly unbelievable, here is literally all you do: Apply a light powder after priming/ moisturizing your face, then liquid foundation. 

It had always been known that the traditional steps of applying base makeup was first priming/ moisturizing, then applying liquid foundation and finally powder last. This is the old way and honestly way less practical. By applying a light powder under the liquid foundation/ tinted moisturizer, you not only need to use less of the product, but your base will last much longer.

I could not believe how wonderfully this technique worked when I first experimented with it, and I have no idea why more people don’t utilize this amazingly easy- application process.

As for some of my favorite powders to use during application (here’s a little bonus Review for you guys) , I have really been loving the HOURGLASS Ambient powders. These powders just launched recently and are so durable and unique.

The focus of these powders are on different types of lighting, giving your face almost like a mini- filter. Everyone looks best in ambient light and HOURGLASS does an awesome job of creating powders that beam light perfectly.

There are six tones i.e six different lighting moods. They are:

Ethereal Light: A sheer, cool tone that eliminates shine and mimics a moonlit glow—even in broad daylight.

Diffused Light: A soft, warm, pale yellow that reduces redness, eliminates shine, and gives skin clarity.

Dim Light: A neutral soft beige that provides a perfect balance of warm and cool tones to blur imperfections.

Mood Light: A soft, sheer lavender pink that mimics the softest, most forgiving light and brightens the complexion.

Luminous Light: A champagne pearl that creates a soft, incandescent candlelit glow—day or night.

Radiant Light: A sun-kissed golden beige that enhances the overall complexion with believable, subtle warmth.

These powders run at about $45.

For a slightly less- expensive option I also would really recommend using the Laura Mercier Translucent powder, priced at about $32. Not only is its translucency ideal to place over primer but the quality of the powder itself is fantastic.

Now both of these options are not loose- setting though if you look in the YouTube video provided, Goss uses a very loose powder. It doesn’t really matter what form your powder is in as long as its light- weight. (You don’t ever want that caked- on look of course)
