Moisturizer Picks: Winter 2014

It’s absolutely freezing where I am~ The snow is pilled up to my roof (not even exaggerating a little) and I’m starting to slowly lose my mind as I haven’t been able to leave the house all week due to the massive blizzard that came through on Monday.

Luckily, I had a few solid days off from classes, so I’m able to post it up once more. Seeing all this snow is also making me incredibly excited for the holiday season with peppermint flavored everything and warm fuzzy socks, cuddling with my dog by the fireplace.

Since it is getting so cold (at least where I am), I decided to make a tiny post focused on how to protect your skin from this sometimes harsh season.

The #1 thing to remember is to MOISTURIZE. Consistently. Just do it. Tis’ the season for dry skin and cracked lips, so believe me, if there is one thing everyone needs to do, it’s to find a quality moisturizer that fits your skin care needs.

Below, I’ve picked out a few of my favorite basic moisturizers for each skin type: oil prone, dry, and combination skin. Additionally, I’ve picked out a couple lip balms that really do the trick when it come to sore lips. So let’s get on with it!

Aquaphor Skin Ointment

Nothing fancy or surprising here, but you just can’t do wrong with good ol’ Aquaphor ($10). It’s affordable and ideal for even the most dry skin types. It works instantly and like the packaging says, “Clinically proven to restore smooth, healthy skin”. It’s also demonologist recommended as well as non-irratating. I’d say if you’re already struggling with cracked skin, this little guy is your best bet but even if your skin is in pretty fair shape, it can never hurt to protect yourself from the frozen air.

OILY: Ole Henriksen Aloe Vera Gel

For the perfect moisturizer for even the most oil-prone skin, I would highly recommend this lovely aloe vera-infused gel. Aloe-vera is a great, natural acne/oil diffuser in addition to its organic, soothing properties. This moisturizer is also formulated without
Parabens, Sulfates and Phthalates, a nice added bonus. (~$22)

COMBINATION: YES! to Tomatoes Daily Balancing Moisturizer

This guy you can pick up in most organic sections of grocery/drug stores. The “Yes to” brand has always been a favorite of mine. This quality daily- balancing moisturizer is made with all natural ingredients, with a big focus on tomatoes, which contains lycopene, a potent antioxidant found in red fruits and vegetables. (~$10)

Awhile back, I devoted a whole post to the insane, endless benefits of pure coconut oil, as organic as you can get. This simple oil can do wonders to dry skin. Great for dry skin, lips, hair… you name it. For more information, check out my post here:

For lips, I have chosen one high-end and one drug store product.

First up, Dior Crème de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm

One of my first posts ever was about this makeup gem. I’ll link the post up here: ($30)

Basically, this gem is packed full of vitamins, smells like heavenly rose water and is a natural lip-plumper. You can’t go wrong.

Next, a classic: Burts Bees Balm

Who doesn’t love Burt’s Bees? This organic brand is ideal for a quick-lip fix. I would recommend getting some of the more “extra-hydrating” Burt’s formulas, though really, I recommend them all. Only about $3, these balms are quite excellent.

Remember: no matter how often you moisturize, it’s equally important to find a product with SPF! Even though it’s not summer, the sun can do just as much damage in the winter…

and that about wraps it up!

Have fun in this winter wonderland (if it’s snowing where you are). If you’re in a warmer climate, have fun in the sun too!

I shall write to all you guys again soon enough.

Much love,
